Local legends: [fill in the blank]

Posted by jamescollier on Jun 09, 2011

Ask enough people about favorite local restaurants and someone's bound will bring up Echo. Or Upstairs Downtown. Or Harland's. (If they've lived here long enough to remember these, that is.)

The restaurants are long-gone, but the affinity our community has for their food—and the chefs behind it—isn't. So who are the local food legends?

I'll start the list:

  • Sharon Alexander (Upstairs Downtown)
  • Roy Harland (Harland's - now at Elbow Room)
  • Tim and Adams (Echo)

Okay, your turn.

Thanks for the list, Chris - at places like Daily Planet and Ripe Tomato, is there a particular chef that you associate with the restaurant? La Cabana and Jon's Bear Club are new to me - haven't heard of either before.

I don't remember who the Chef was at Daily Planet, but I always enjoyed eating there.

I think he is talking about La Cabana in Northfork. The place is legit, small, and funky. There isn't a square foot in the dinning area that is level but the food is wonderful. If you want some great tasting traditional Mexican food with some upscale twist, this is your place. Now why do we have to drive to Northfork for that.......?
